Couples Therapy

Couples often feel so rejected by each other and unloved. They wonder where the feelings, respect, and sense of wholesome togetherness has gone.

They yearn and wish for closeness, contentment, and emotional connectedness. Extensively trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), I aid couples in reconnecting through bonds of deepest meaning, recreating the sense of togetherness that all of us seek to build with our spouses. Understanding your partner’s deepest needs, and having your partner understand yours need not be an elusive dream!

Together, we can create safety and nurturing that can transform your marriage into the oasis you always craved. Your marriage need not be a source of frustration and pain! Through greater connectivity and mutual discovery, you and your significant other can learn to love, laugh, and invigorate your marriage.

Family Therapy

Raising robust, successful children in today’s day and age is hard! If you find yourself spiraling into frequent altercations with your children, or just having trouble loving or connecting with your child, teen, or adult offspring, family therapy can be a wonderful place to explore, rediscover, and reestablish bonds of love and acceptance with those that matter most.

Anxiety Therapy

Do you feel yourself experiencing nervousness, restless, or tense?

Do you find yourself lying in bed at night worrying about the future?

Have you found yourself avoiding things that matter dearly to you such as socializing with friends or family?

Anxiety is a normal part of life that we all experience. When it starts taking place excessively and persistently it can turn daily living into a nightmare of worry, physical discomfort, and a seeming never ending sense of impending doom.

Do you find yourself caught in cycles of overthinking, racing thoughts and feelings and just wishing the cascading thoughts would just stop?
Welcome! I am happy you are here!

Whether you suffer from low levels of anxiety or severe panic attacks, our work together will help you become empowered to face the day or night ahead of you and provide you with life changing skills that will enable you to transcend what feels like endless cycles of fear and worry.

Depression

Do you find yourself experiencing deep wells of sadness?

Do you find yourself obsessing over negative thoughts, always feeling “less than” or comparing yourself to other people?

Do you often feel that other people are leading great lives while you suffer setbacks and disappointment?

Do you feel chronically unfulfilled?

Do you feel isolated, lonely, and feel yourself avoiding the company of friends, family, and situations that used to be meaningful? One of the most hurtful parts of this dark journey called depression is when well -meaning people tell you that you should “be happy with what you have”, or “snap out of it.”

Depression and anxiety often feel like bullies, making us feel that we cannot cope. The sadness, desperation, lack of drive, and often endless comparing ourselves to others or the way we used to be seems to instill every moment of life with heaviness and pain. Reaching out for help often feels useless.

You can feel happy and fulfilled again! You too can learn to find the motivation to do the things that matter most to you and live the life you want most!

You can now make a life changing first step. With kindness and compassion to your own self, we will learn to recognize when your own thoughts seem to turn against you and learn how to walk into life’s challenges with strength and self respect.

With the skills we learn together in therapy, you will learn to recognize self-defeating thought patterns.

More importantly, you will gain the courage and wherewithal to assert your own best decision making, and ability to walk towards the life you want to live.

Meet Avrohom J. Weiss, LMFT

Relationship Counselor and Psychotherapist

I believe that therapy is place for blossoming and becoming. It’s a place for self discovery growing into the person you want to be.

I have worked in a multiplicity of therapeutic and educational settings gaining a wide range of experiences with different populations.
In addition to my clinical experience, I have worked in the field of education for over twenty years in both educational and administrative positions in the US and abroad.

Graduating with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2013, my early clinical experiences were formed at the Family Institute of Neve Yerushalayim in Jerusalem, Israel where I served as a staff therapist and as a volunteer on their domestic violence unit.

I worked for several years at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services outpatient mental health clinic as well as a foster care case planner aiding children and their families under the administration of Child Protective Services (ACS).

In addition to outpatient settings, I served as an Intensive In Community (IIC) service provider where I provided individual and family therapy in the homes of families undergoing stress or trauma.

For the last several years, I have been an associate therapist in private practice settings throughout the tri state area.

My belief is that through guided exploration of ones’s past experiences and proactively engaging one’s future, one can unlock the gifts of self actualization and meaningful living.
